Internet predators could potentially identify your location by your screen name.
Consider substituting symbols and letters that are similar: @=a, 3=e, $=5, S=5.
Most messaging apps and social networks will let you use symbols in a username and, with many to choose from, the possibilities are nearly endless.
An analysis about online dating published in the journal Evidence Based Medicine suggests that men are drawn to online profiles in which a user name signifies physical fitness, while women prefer user names indicating risk-taking. The joint data analysis, by researchers with Queen Mary University of London and the University of Texas, found that choosing internet dating handles that begin with a letter in the first half of the alphabet is as important as uploading a flattering profile pic or crafting the perfect introductory headline.
"Initial interest was best captured through: a desirable screen name starting with a letter in the top half of the alphabet; an attractive still picture; and a fluent headline message," the paper says.
There are some online dating sites that will automatically assign you a user name but most of the popular dating service (including Match and e Harmony) will require that you create your own user name.
I recently had some traffic coming to my site where the people were obviously looking for the answer to that question so I wanted to briefly speak to this.
First, you need to keep in mind that your user name is not going to be very important in the grand scheme of things. No one is going to pick or reject you based on your user id and I personally can’t remember any user ids that have really jumped out at me.
Generally speaking, you should make your user id whatever you want it to be.
A username is your identity online, whether you use it for your online bank or just to meet new people through a chat room.
